NSE Partners with Defence Ministry to Boost Capital Access for Defence Sector MSMEs

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) announced on Monday that it has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Defence to provide capital market access to Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the defence sector. This memorandum of understanding (MoU) aims to help MSMEs raise productive capital for their growth plans efficiently and transparently through the NSE Emerge platform.

NSE Boosts Defence MSMEs Capital Access

Facilitating Capital Market Access

The NSE Emerge platform offers new and viable options for raising equity capital from a diverse set of investors, according to a statement from the exchange. The MoU will be effective for five years, during which the Department of Defence Production (DDP) and NSE will conduct extensive awareness drives. These drives will include seminars, MSME camps, knowledge sessions, roadshows, and workshops to guide companies engaged with the Ministry of Defence on fundraising through the NSE Emerge platform.

Support for MSMEs

NSE will also assist MSMEs in connecting with intermediaries such as merchant bankers, registrars, transfer agents, and depositories. They will guide these enterprises regarding capital markets, capital raising mechanisms, and regulatory compliance requirements. This support aims to help MSMEs navigate the complexities of the capital markets more effectively.

The MoU was signed by the Additional Secretary of the Department of Defence Production and the Managing Director of NSE in the presence of Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane. This collaboration is expected to help MSMEs and emerging companies in the defence sector scale up their business operations, explore new markets, and fund their research and development activities.

"This pact will help MSMEs and emerging companies in the defence sector to scale up their business operations, explore new markets and fund their R&D activities," said a statement from NSE.

By providing access to a diversified set of investors, this initiative aims to offer new opportunities for equity capital raising. The collaboration between DDP and NSE is designed to create a transparent and efficient process for MSMEs in the defence sector to secure necessary funding.

In summary, this agreement between NSE and the Ministry of Defence is set to significantly benefit MSMEs by facilitating easier access to capital markets. Through various awareness initiatives and support mechanisms, these enterprises can better navigate regulatory requirements and connect with essential market intermediaries.
