NYSE To Switch To E-Trading From March 23

The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) will suspend its trading floors temporarily and switch completely to e-trading with effect from March 23. The move comes after the exchange's employee and one of the trader has been confirmed to have coronavirus infection.

The exchange's facilities to be shut down include the equities and American options trading floors in New York and Arca options trading floor in San Francisco.

"Our markets are fully capable of operating in an all-electronic fashion...and we will proceed in that manner until we can re-open our trading floors to our members," NYSE President Stacey Cunningham said in a statement.

Trading and regulatory monitoring of all NYSE-listed securities will continue without interruption, the company said.

Further, in a letter addressed to employees, the CEO of Intercontinental which owns NYSE said staff who feels even mildly ill should stay back at home.
