October 2 Stock Market Holiday: Will NSE & BSE Be Closed For Gandhi Jayanti? Check Trading Schedule

This week, trading on Dalal Street will be carried out for only four days since October 2nd is a stock market holiday on account of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti.

On both the NSE and BSE holiday calendars, October 2 is a trading holiday, so investors & traders will not be able to buy or sell shares on the equity market on that day.

Stock Market Holiday October 2: What Is Closed?

The NSE stock market holiday on Friday will cover the regular equity segment, while the exchange's holiday calendar also applies to other relevant segments according to their respective schedules. The NSE's F&O holiday circular also lists October 2 as a trading holiday. Therefore, there will be no regular equity trading on NSE or BSE on October 2. Hence, people should therefore take note of the NSE holiday on October 2nd and plan their trades accordingly.

Even the commodity trading on the Multi-Commodity Exchange will be closed as per the exchange holiday schedule.

Stock Market Long Weekend in October

The October 2 stock market holiday creates a three-day market break when combined with the weekend. Since Saturday and Sunday are usual stock market holidays, there will be three continuous days of no trading activity in the stock market this week.

Therefore, Thursday, October 1, will be the last regular trading session before the Gandhi Jayanti break, and the market is scheduled to resume on Monday, October 5.

October 2026 Stock Market Holidays

Apart from the weekend closure, here are two weekday stock market holidays in October. After Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, the stock market will also be closed on Tuesday, October 20th, for Dussehra as per NSE's 2026 holiday calendar.

Later this year, the NSE & BSE will observe the next big event on Diwali Day, November 8th, which falls on a Sunday and will be a trading holiday for Diwali Laxmi Pujan, with a Muhurat Trading session scheduled for that day. The NSE will notify the timings for Muhurat Trading separately through a circular.

The stock market will also be closed on November 10th on the occasion of Diwali-Balipratipada.
