Odisha Strike on 28 January 2026: Check Timing of Protest Tomorrow

The statewide Odisha strike will be observed on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, according to the organisers.

Know Reasons and Demands Behind The Protest

For many farmers, the bandh is centered around long-pending concerns related to paddy procurement and fair compensation. The NNKS has demanded that farmers receive Rs 800 per quintal as input assistance directly at government-run mandis. Farmers say delayed payments and the involvement of intermediaries often leave them struggling to recover cultivation costs, making it harder to sustain their livelihoods.

Farmers Seek Fair Procurement Without Middlemen

One of the key demands raised during the bandh is the removal of middlemen and millers from the paddy procurement system. According to farmers, intermediaries often delay payments or reduce profits, forcing cultivators to accept lower returns despite rising input costs such as seeds, fertilisers and labour.

Beyond agriculture, the NNKS has opposed the installation of electricity smart meters, arguing that many households fear higher electricity bills and lack clarity on how the new meters will function. For families already coping with inflation and rising living costs, any uncertainty around power charges has become a major worry.

Vehicle owners have also voiced frustration over steep fines imposed during pollution certificate checks. Many commuters and small business owners say sudden penalties add to their financial burden, especially for those who depend on two-wheelers and small vehicles for daily work.

Another concern highlighted during the bandh is the proposed replacement of MGNREGA, a scheme that provides guaranteed wage employment to rural households. Workers and villagers fear that any change to the existing system could affect their income stability, particularly during off-season periods when farm work is scarce.
