Ola's Krutrim to Rival Tech Giants with Energy-Efficient Data Centres, Says Founder

In a bold move to redefine the landscape of cloud services and artificial intelligence (AI) development, Ola's AI platform, Krutrim, is set to challenge global technology giants. Bhavish Aggarwal, the founder of Ola, made a significant announcement at a recent event about the launch of Krutrim Cloud. This new AI cloud platform is designed to cater to enterprises, researchers, and developers at competitively low costs, with a particular emphasis on meeting the demands of Indian developers.

Olas Krutrim Challenges Tech Giants

Aggarwal's vision for Krutrim extends beyond just offering cloud services. He aims to establish the most energy-efficient data centres worldwide, directly competing with industry heavyweights such as Microsoft and Google. "We are building our own technology to do energy management to make the most efficient data centres in the world," Aggarwal stated, highlighting his commitment to innovation and efficiency.

One of the critical issues Aggarwal addressed is the disparity in cloud service costs between Indian and American developers, questioning the justification behind such pricing models. He accused major technology firms like Amazon, Google, and Apple of creating closed ecosystems that restrict developers' freedom. Krutrim's overarching goal is to develop a comprehensive AI platform that simplifies and economizes the application development process.

The financial strain on startups due to high cloud service expenses was another concern raised by Aggarwal. He believes that Krutrim can alleviate this burden by offering more affordable solutions. The Krutrim assistant app, developed on Ola's proprietary large language model and trained on over 2 trillion tokens, showcases the platform's capabilities. It boasts an impressive understanding and generation of intelligent responses in more than 10 Indian languages, with plans to expand support to all 22 official languages soon.

Aggarwal envisions Krutrim as not just an Indian platform but a global one that will facilitate the creation of applications relevant both locally and worldwide. "We are going to make many more models which are useful in the Indian context," he said, indicating ongoing work on voice and vision-based models among others.

This ambitious project by Ola signifies a significant step towards democratizing AI development and cloud services, making them more accessible and tailored to Indian developers' needs. As Krutrim gears up to compete on the global stage, it promises to bring innovation and efficiency to the forefront of technology development.
