Ola Electric is gearing up to introduce its electric autorickshaw, potentially named 'Raahi', later this month, according to a report by The Economic Times. Ola Electric has been diligently developing 'Raahi' over the past few years as part of its broader strategy to penetrate the commercial vehicle sector.
This forthcoming launch signifies the company's ambitious foray into the competitive electric three-wheeler space, where it will vie against established players such as Mahindra Treo, Piaggio Ape e-city, and Bajaj RE.

Industry insiders suggest that Ola Electric is poised to make significant announcements in the coming months, including updates on its gigafactory, ahead of its anticipated initial public offering (IPO). However, the company has remained tight-lipped, choosing not to respond to queries regarding its plans, as reported by The Economic Times.
The electric autorickshaw market in India presents a lucrative opportunity for Ola Electric, with competitors like Mahindra, Piaggio, and Bajaj pricing their e-autorickshaws between Rs 2 lakh and over Rs 3.5 lakh, catering to various segments of consumers based on model specifications and additional features. By entering this market segment, Ola Electric aims to leverage its technological prowess and brand recognition to carve out a niche for itself and establish a strong foothold in the commercial electric vehicle segment.
In terms of market performance, Ola Electric has already demonstrated its dominance in the electric scooter segment, commanding a commanding 41 percent share as of February 2024. This remarkable achievement underscores the company's ability to capture consumer interest and drive adoption of electric vehicles in India. Competitors such as TVS Motor, Bajaj Auto, and Ather Energy trail behind, with market shares of 17.7 percent, 14.2 percent, and 11 percent, respectively.
Recent data from the government's transport website, Vahan, reveals a significant surge in electric three-wheeler sales, surpassing 580,000 units in 2023, marking a 66 percent increase from the previous year. Electric three-wheelers accounted for over 50 percent of total three-wheeler sales in 2023, indicating a growing preference for eco-friendly mobility solutions among consumers.
In addition to its foray into the electric autorickshaw market, Ola Electric is intensifying its efforts in the electric two-wheeler segment, where it currently holds a leading position. In February 2024, the company announced an extension of the battery warranty for all scooter variants to eight years, further enhancing consumer confidence in its products.
Furthermore, Ola Electric plans to set up 10,000 fast-charging points, sell portable fast chargers to customers, and expand its service centre network to 600 locations by April, underscoring its commitment to providing seamless electric vehicle infrastructure and support services.
The company's ambitious growth plans are bolstered by its filing of a draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) in December 2023, with the aim of raising up to Rs 5,500 crore through a fresh issue, along with an offer for the sale of 95.2 million shares by existing investors. Founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal's announcement regarding the establishment of a gigafactory by the end of the current quarter further highlights Ola Electric's commitment to scaling up production and satisfying India's growing demand for electric cars.
Ola Electric's upcoming launch of the electric autorickshaw 'Raahi' signifies a significant milestone in the company's journey towards promoting sustainable mobility solutions and driving the adoption of electric vehicles in India. With its proven track record in the electric scooter segment and ambitious expansion plans, Ola Electric is well-positioned to revolutionise the electric vehicle landscape and pave the way for a greener, more sustainable future.
As anticipation builds ahead of the IPO and further announcements, all eyes are on Ola Electric as it embarks on this exciting new chapter of growth and innovation in the electric vehicle industry.
