Onion, tomato price rise has continued owing to destruction in crop and hence lesser supply and also amid record high fuel rates.

The government which compiles data basis the data received from more than 100 centres, reveals that while price of pulses and oil continues to be almost the same as that of last month, onion price trend at a price of Rs. 39 per kg on an average. While this price, a year back has been at Rs. 46 per kg. In some of the urban centres, the prices are in the range of Rs. 50-65 per kg.

Price of tomato on the other hand on an average trended at a price of Rs. 45 per kg. The same a year back was at Rs. 41 per kg and in the previous month it was at Rs. 27 per kg. And there is an estimate that tomato prices shall further increase because of recent rains in the country.

It is seen that prices of onion increase during September-October increase as the stocks deplete during this time and the fresh crop begins to arrive in mid-November.

To curb further price rise, the centre has been releasing buffer stock.
