The move is aligned with the company's shift towards artificial intelligence (AI) and efforts to streamline costs. Sources suggest that the actual number of affected employees may be in the several hundreds, with job cuts spanning multiple divisions, including the Oracle Cloud business.

The layoffs were formally communicated to employees via internal letters, stating that recent organisational changes had resulted in the redundancy of certain roles. Oracle noted that the restructuring is aimed at realigning the workforce in line with its evolving business priorities and technological advancements.

Compensation and Exit Benefits for Oracle India Employees

Oracle is offering a severance package comprising 15 days' salary for every year of completed service, along with medical insurance benefits for up to one year post-departure. The packages aim to cushion the impact on affected employees, though the scale of the layoffs indicates a significant workforce reduction.

Notably, some of the impacted staff include long-tenured employees with 15 to 20 years of service. This suggests that the job cuts are not limited to newer recruits but span a wide range of experience levels.

While a number of employees described the exit process as amicable with some receiving a month's garden leave-others reported less smooth offboarding experiences.

Sources close to the matter insist that the redundancies were not performance-related, but rather the result of evolving technology and cost-efficiency measures. As Oracle doubles down on AI, many roles-particularly in legacy infrastructure and coding teams-have been deemed redundant.

According to one source, AI-based systems are now capable of performing tasks that previously required full teams of developers or support staff. "These decisions are strategic and reflect how AI is reshaping enterprise operations," the source noted.

For over 20 years, Oracle has maintained a strong presence in India, with offices located in major metropolitan centres such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Noida and Kolkata. Now, the technology giant is extending its footprint beyond these urban hubs as part of its geo-expansion initiative, aimed at tapping into Tier-II and Tier-III cities.

The next phase of Oracle's regional growth strategy includes cities like Chandigarh, Lucknow, Jaipur, Bhopal, and Thiruvananthapuram, signalling a focused push towards broader market engagement across India.
