Over 3 Crore Taxpayers Complete Transactions, 750 Resources Working To Resolve Challenges: Infosys

Infosys stated in a statement today that over three crore taxpayers have completed transactions and about 1.5 crore Income Tax Returns have been filed on the new I-T site.

This comes after Infosys' new e-filing portal has been plagued by difficulties since its launch on June 7. The Income-Tax Return (ITR) filing date for people for FY 2020-21 was extended by the Central Board of Direct Taxation (CBDT) to December 31, 2021, because of the problems faced by taxpayers in the aftermath of the Covid-19 outbreak. The deadline for filing ITRs was previously extended to September 30, 2021, from the regular July 31, 2021 deadline.

Due to ongoing issues, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had to arrange a meeting with Infosys executives twice, once in June and again on August 23. Sitharaman gave the IT company till September 15 to fix the portal.

"Thus far, over 3 crore taxpayers have logged into the portal and successfully completed various transactions. Even as the portal makes sustained progress with crores of taxpayers successfully performing transactions, the company acknowledges the difficulties some users continue to experience and is working expeditiously, in collaboration with the income tax department, to further streamline the end-user experience," Infosys said.

Over 15 lakh unique taxpayers entered into the portal every day on average in September, and over 1.5 crore returns have been filed to date. Over 85% of taxpayers who have submitted returns have also completed their e-verification, which is mostly done through Aadhaar OTP authentication.

ITR 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 are now ready for submission, according to Infosys. A large number of statutory forms are now available online. Over 11.5 lakh statutory forms and over 8 lakh TDS returns have been filed thus far.

The corporation, on the other hand, recognizes the difficulties that users have had and continue to face when utilizing the portal. "As it continues to make steady progress, Infosys realizes the current problems faced by some users and has directly interacted with over 1200 taxpayers to better understand their concerns," the company said.

According to Infosys, the company is focusing on the difficulties and is working closely with the Chartered Accountant community to ensure that a broad range of user scenarios is provided and properly tested before deployment.

These services are now available on the I-T portal for taxpayers;

  • e-verification, primarily through the use of the Aadhaar One-Time Password (OTP).
  • The ITRs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 can now be filed.
  • A large number of statutory forms are also available online.
  • Several important statutory forms are being filed in considerable numbers, including 15G, 15H, EQ1, 10A, 10E, 10IE, DTVSV, 15CA, 15CB, 35, and TDS Returns.
  • E-proceedings, reaction to notices and demands, e-PAN services, DSC registrations, and legal heir functions have all been enabled for taxpayers.
