Operation Sindoor Live Updates: Tensions along the India-Pakistan border escalated sharply on Thursday after Pakistan launched a series of missile and drone attacks targeting the Jammu region, Punjab, and Rajasthan, marking one of the most serious cross-border escalations in recent years. India's advanced S-400 air defence systems intercepted eight missiles and three drones, but one drone managed to strike the Jammu airport. Additional drone threats were neutralised in Jaisalmer and Pathankot.

Air raid sirens are sounding in Chandigarh amid ongoing artillery shelling by Pakistani forces near the International Border across Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan. Authorities are preparing to enforce a blackout in response to the escalating threat.

Pakistan's Drone Strikes in Jammu
At approximately 8:40 PM IST on May 8, Pakistan initiated an airstrike targeting Jammu district, including the airport, Jammu University and Jammu-Srinagar highway. The Indian Air Force's S-400 missile defense system successfully intercepted all eight incoming missiles. However, one drone managed to breach defenses and struck the Jammu airport, while three others were intercepted. Civilian areas in Jammu city, Udhampur, Akhnoor, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, and Jaisalmer have reportedly been hit.
Over the past hour, Indian Army bases and airfields have been under sustained attack, with multiple drone and missile strikes launched from Pakistan. In response, the Indian Army has activated its counter-drone systems to neutralize the airborne threats.
Blackout in Jammu: Power supply has been cut off in Jammu as India's S-400 air defence system has been activated.
Security agencies have confirmed that eight missiles were launched from Pakistan, targeting the Jammu civil airport, Samba, RS Pura, Arnia, and nearby regions.
Grenade Attacks and Cross-Border Firing in Punjab and Rajasthan
A blackout has also been enforced in Gurdaspur, Punjab, following heavy shelling by Pakistani troops in nearby areas of Jammu.
As per media reports, the Indian Air Force has shot down a Pakistani fighter aircraft near Lathi, close to Pokhran in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. Additionally, a Pakistani drone was destroyed roughly 20 kilometres before reaching the Phalodi Air Force Station. Reports also indicate that Pakistan attempted a strike on Jaisalmer airport.
Blackout in Kachchh, Gujarat
In response to the ongoing attacks, Bhuj in Gujarat's Kachchh district has experienced a complete power outage. All villages along the India-Pakistan border in Kachchh have lost electricity.
