Pakistan's Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, introduced a three-month electricity relief package on Friday. This initiative aims to ease the financial burden on citizens and businesses in the economically challenged country. The relief will apply from December to February, offering savings between Rs 11.42 and Rs 26 per unit.

Domestic users consuming over 200 units in the protected category can expect reductions of up to Rs 26.7 per unit on their electricity bills. Industrial consumers will see a decrease ranging from Rs 5.27 to Rs 15.5 per unit, equating to savings of 18-37 per cent. Commercial users will benefit from subsidies between Rs 13.46 and Rs 22.71 per unit, translating into a 34-47 per cent reduction.
Economic Growth and Strategy
Prime Minister Shehbaz highlighted that this package is part of a broader economic strategy designed to boost resilience and promote long-term growth. He stated that the initiative would stimulate economic growth by enhancing agricultural productivity, industrial output, business activity, and exports.
During his address, Shehbaz expressed gratitude towards the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for allowing the implementation of this package. He emphasized its significance in supporting the government's economic plans.
Positive Economic Indicators
The Prime Minister also touched upon Pakistan's economic recovery, noting record-high foreign remittances of USD 8 billion in the first quarter of the fiscal year. Additionally, he mentioned a reduction in inflation to 6.7 per cent, indicating positive trends in the country's economic landscape.
This relief package represents a significant step towards alleviating financial pressures on various sectors while aiming for sustainable economic development in Pakistan.
