US Iran talks focus as Ishaq Dar and Abbas Araghchi discuss dialogue by phone

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar spoke by telephone with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, stressing continued dialogue to ease US–Iran tensions. Pakistan said it is working to help narrow differences and support regional stability. The call followed Donald Trump’s statement that US negotiators would travel to Islamabad for talks with Iran.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held fresh calls on Sunday as tensions stayed high between the US and Iran. Dar spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and stressed dialogue as the main route to ease the dispute. A separate call with Poland’s Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski included praise for Pakistan’s role in ceasefire efforts.

Dar urges dialogue on US Iran

The discussions came as US President Donald Trump said American officials would travel to Pakistan for talks. "My Representatives are going to Islamabad, Pakistan - They will be there tomorrow evening, for Negotiations,\" Trump wrote on Truth Social. The visit was announced for Monday, following earlier contact between the US and Iran in Pakistan.

US and Iran talks in Islamabad

The US and Iran held rare direct talks in Pakistan last week to end their conflict. However, the discussions ended without any agreement. The Foreign Office said Dar and Araghchi spoke about the current strain between Washington and Tehran. The statement also noted Pakistan’s efforts to help address differences.

Pakistan dialogue and engagement on US and Iran tensions

Dar said talks were necessary to deal with the West Asia conflict. \"Heemphasized the need for continued dialogue and engagement as essential to resolving the current issues as soon as possible for promoting peace and stability in the region and beyond,\" the Foreign Office said. Dar is also Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister.

Both leaders agreed to stay in close contact after the call, the statement said. Dar and Araghchi also agreed on a later phone call. The planned call was between the President of Iran and the Prime Minister of Pakistan. It was expected to take place later on Sunday.

Pakistan-Poland ties amid US and Iran ceasefire efforts

In another call, Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski spoke with Dar on Sunday. Sikorski appreciated Pakistan’s work for a ceasefire and peace between the US and Iran, the Foreign Office said. The two leaders also exchanged views on bilateral and regional matters.

The Foreign Office said both sides welcomed positive momentum in Pakistan–Poland relations. Dar and Sikorski reaffirmed plans to deepen cooperation in areas of shared interest. They also held an in-depth exchange on regional and global issues. The statement linked the discussion to wider diplomacy around the conflict.

The Foreign Office said Sikorski commended Pakistan’s role in facilitating a ceasefire between Iran and the United States. The statement added that Sikorski valued Pakistan’s continued focus on dialogue and diplomacy. The ceasefire between the US and Iran is due to expire on April 22, keeping pressure on negotiations.
