Petrol, Diesel Prices Steady On October 4; Global Crude Rates Recede

After scaling to record high, fuel rates across the country remained unchanged on October 4. On the previous day, petrol price in New Delhi hit a new peak of Rs. 102.39 per litre, while diesel too reached a record high of Rs. 90.77 per litre.

In Mumbai, petrol prices remained static and was retailing at a price of Rs. 108.43 per litre. Mumbai on May 29, 2021 became the first metro city in the country where petrol was for the first time being sold for over Rs. 100 per litre. Diesel today in the city was priced at Rs 98.48 per litre.

In Kolkata, petrol and diesel prices were sold for Rs. 103.07 per litre and Rs 93.87 per litre, respectively. Chennai on the other hand retailed petrol at Rs. 100.01 and diesel at Rs. 95.31 per litre, with prices remaining steady today.

State-run oil marketing companies including BPCL, HPCL and IOC began revising fuel rates on a daily basis on September 24 after international crude rates hit close to a 3-year high.

In today's session, oil prices declined, with WTI crude falling by 0.42 percent to $75.56 per barrel. The fall has come ahead of the OPEC+ supply policy meet scheduled later in the day today wherein decision shall be taken on whether to increase production by 400,000 bpd or more in November and December.
