The rate of one litre of petrol is recorded at Rs 111.35 per litre and diesel price is available at Rs 97.28 per litre in Mumbai.

According to reports, the price of petrol and diesel may come down as Chief Minister Eknath Shinde declared on Monday that the state government will bring down the Value-Added Tax (VAT) on fuel prices. Shinde informed about this decision to the Legislative House and said the decision to lower VAT on petrol and diesel shall be made in the state cabinet soon after he wins the floor test.
Meanwhile, the prices of petrol and diesel continue to remain steady as Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) decide to keep the price unchanged for more than a month.
Prices of both the fuel petrol and diesel have been same for more than a month ever since finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman declared a cut in excise duty on petrol and diesel. Nirmala Sitharaman declared an excuse duty cut on petrol by Rs 8 per litre and Rs 6 per litre on diesel earlier this year on May 21.
The prices of petrol and diesel differ in all the states in India due to implementation of local taxes such as VAT and freight charges.
The public sector oil marketing companies like Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) update prices of fuel everyday keeping in line with benchmark global prices and foreign exchange rates. If any changes in the prices of petrol and diesel occur, it is implemented at 6 AM everyday.

Gurugram: Petrol: Rs 97.18/litre, Diesel: Rs 90.05/litre
Chandigarh: Petrol: Rs 96.20/litre, Diesel: Rs 84.26/litre
