Fuel rates have been hiked yet again for the second consecutive day on October 1, 2021. Post the latest hike, petrol and diesel price have hit record levels across the country, offseting the earlier price cut.

This is the third price rise in petrol after an almost 3-week hiatus and fifth price increase for diesel. Notably, price of petrol and diesel varies across cities owing to the incidence of local taxes.
Crude prices in the international markets are at 3-year high with global benchmark brent trading at $78.64 per barrel, while Crude oil WTI futures traded close to $75 per barrel. Importantly, India meets 85 percent of its oil requirement via imports and hence benchmarks domestic fuel rates to international oil rates.
