Pink Moon 2025: Chaitra Purnima Full Moon to Align With Hanuman Jayanti, Baisakhi, Easter, and Bak Poya

On Saturday, April 12, 2025, the night sky will light up with a special event, the Full Moon of April, known as the Pink Moon or Paschal Moon. This year, it will also be a Micromoon and will rise during major celebrations like Hanuman Jayanti and Baisakhi. Even though the moon will not actually appear pink, it holds strong spiritual significance for different cultures and faiths across the world.

Let us explore what makes the Pink Moon 2025 unique and how you can witness this beautiful sight.

Pink Moon

What is Pink Moon?

Despite its name, the Moon will not appear pink in colour actually. The name comes from wild ground phlox, a pink wildflower that blooms across North America in early spring. Native American tribes named it after these early spring flowers, as they usually bloom around the time of this full moon.

The April Pink Moon also marks the first full moon of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and is seen as a symbol of rebirth and transformation. It is an important time for new beginnings and fresh energy as the season changes.

Interestingly, in 2025, the Pink Moon will be a Micromoon. This means the Moon will be at its apogee, the farthest point from Earth in its orbit. Because of this, it will look slightly smaller and fainter than a usual full moon.

Although the Vaisakhi Sankranti Moment, also called as Mesha Sankranti, marks the sun's entry into the Aries zodiac, occurs at midnight on April 14. The main celebration takes place on April 13 according to the traditional Punjabi calendar and the sunrise-based Panchang.

When is Full Moon, Purnima? Where to Watch April Pink Moon 2025?

The Pink Moon will be visible from India early on Sunday morning. It will reach its peak at 8:22 PM EDT on April 12, which means 5:00 AM IST on Sunday, April 13, 2025.

You do not need any special equipment to view it. However, for the best experience, try to move away from city lights and find an open place like a field, hilltop, or village area. In open areas, the Pink Moon will look bigger and shine brighter.

As the Moon rises just above the horizon, it creates an effect called the Moon Illusion, where it looks larger and may even sparkle with a golden colour. It's a simple but breathtaking sight that anyone can enjoy.
