Goyal Proposes Township Dedicated to Startups to Boost Entrepreneurship

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal proposed the creation of a township dedicated to entrepreneurs and startups, aiming to emulate the success of Silicon Valley in the United States. He suggested that startups join official delegation visits to various countries for better exposure.

Encouraging Global Aspirations

Goyal urged young entrepreneurs to aim high and become global players, highlighting the vast opportunities available internationally. "We should be aspiring to go beyond. We should be aspiring to have our own silicon valley. I know Bengaluru is the Silicon Valley of India. But I think it's time we also start thinking in terms of maybe tying up with NICDC and creating a whole new township dedicated to entrepreneurs, startups, innovators, and disruptors," he said.

NICDC's Role in Development

The National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC) is spearheading the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme. This ambitious infrastructure initiative aims to develop new industrial cities as smart cities. Currently, 20 such townships are being developed across India, including in Bihar, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh.

During the launch of the Bharat Startup Knowledge Access Registry (BHASKAR) Portal in New Delhi, Goyal addressed startup players. He envisioned creating a society or a large area of land—200, 100, or even 500 acres—where an ecosystem could be established. "Can we create a society, or a whole 200 or 100 or 500 acre area land... see whether we can create some ecosystem... whether it's somebody coming from a very far-off place with an idea, who does not know where and whom to connect with can land up there in the township like once upon a time people used to come to Mumbai," Goyal stated.

Goyal also encouraged startups to participate in official delegation visits abroad. These visits provide valuable exposure and networking opportunities for budding entrepreneurs. The minister believes that such initiatives can help Indian startups gain international recognition and growth.
