PM Awaz Yojana: Proposals For Construction of Nearly 3.61 Lakh Houses

The government approved 708 applications for the construction of 3.61 lakh dwellings under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban (PMAY-U).

On June 1, 2015, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana was launched to provide affordable homes to the urban poor. It's a Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS), which means PMAY participants can get an interest subsidy if they take out a loan to buy or build a home. The goal of this program is to give housing to everyone by the year 2022.

The decision was made at the PMAY-54th U's Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) meeting in New Delhi. Thirteen states and territories were represented during the meeting. These homes will be built in the verticals of Beneficiary Led Construction and Affordable Housing in Partnership.

Shri Durga Shanker Mishra, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), also launched the 'PMAY- U Awards 2021 - 100 Days Challenge'. The awards are given to honor and recognise exceptional contributions and performances.

This was the first CSMC meeting held during the second phase of the COVID-19 program, demonstrating the significance the government places on the goal of delivering pucca dwellings to all eligible beneficiaries in urban India by 2022, as part of the government's aim of "Housing for All." Under PMAY, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has redoubled its efforts to speed up housing development and completion across the country (U).

As a result, the total number of sanctioned dwellings under PMAY(U) is currently 112.4 lakh, with 82.5 lakh being grounded for construction and 48.31 lakh being completed/delivered so far. The Mission's total investment is Rs 7.35 lakh crore, with Rs 1.81 lakh crore in Central support, of which Rs 96,067 crore has been given.
