Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi released 8th instalment of financial benefit of Rs 20 Core to 9.5 crore beneficiary farmers under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme today via video conferencing. Prime Minister also interacted with farmer-beneficiaries during the event. Union Agriculture Minister was also present on the occasion.
The Prime Minister, speaking on the occasion, stated that this scheme would benefit West Bengal farmers for the first time. He praised the farmers' efforts, saying that despite the difficulties of the pandemic, they have produced record crops in food grains and horticulture.
Every year, he said, the government sets new records in procurement at MSP. MSP had set new records for paddy procurement, and now wheat procurement is doing the same. He also stated that, compared to last year, about 10% more wheat has been procured at MSP so far this year. So far, about Rs. 58,000 crores have been directly transferred to farmers' accounts for wheat procurement.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the Kisan Credit Card deadline has been extended during the COVID-19 pandemic, and instalments can now be renewed by June 30. In recent years, he claims, more than 2 crore Kisan Credit Cards have been issued.
