Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in delegation-level discussions with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković on Wednesday. The talks aimed to enhance bilateral relations between India and Croatia. Modi's visit marks the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Croatia, concluding his three-nation tour. Upon arrival, he received a ceremonial welcome. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri were present during the discussions.

Modi expressed optimism about the visit, highlighting the historical cultural ties between India and Croatia. He stated that this visit would pave the way for new opportunities in areas of mutual interest. "Both our countries enjoy centuries-old close cultural links. As the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Croatia, it will open new avenues for bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest," Modi said before his arrival.
Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation
Prime Minister Plenković emphasised the significance of Modi's visit, noting its timing amid important geopolitical developments. "We welcomed Indian Prime Minister @narendramodi to Zagreb! This is the first ever visit by the Prime Minister of India - the most populous country in the world, which comes at an important geopolitical moment," Plenković stated on X. He highlighted that both nations are embarking on a new chapter in their relationship.
The Croatian leader also mentioned that conditions are being created to strengthen cooperation across various sectors. This visit underscores India's commitment to deepening its engagement with European Union partners, as noted by the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi.
Expanding Global Engagement
During his tour, Modi also visited Canada and Cyprus. In Canada, he attended the G7 summit and held discussions with numerous global leaders. His trip to Cyprus was part of this broader diplomatic mission.
In a special gesture, Prime Minister Plenković personally welcomed Modi at the airport upon his arrival from Canada. This act highlighted the importance Croatia places on strengthening ties with India.
Modi is also scheduled to meet Croatian President Zoran Milanovic during his stay. This meeting is expected to further solidify the relationship between the two countries.
The visit signifies a commitment to enhancing bilateral ties and exploring new avenues for cooperation between India and Croatia. It also reflects India's broader strategy of engaging more deeply with European partners.
