PM Modi Launches LIC’s BIMA SAKHI Yojana To Bolster Women’s Empowerment

On December 9, 2024, the Hon. Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modiji, officially inaugurated LIC's BIMA SAKHI Yojana at Panipat, Haryana. According to him, women would have the chance to earn income by becoming BIMA SAKHI. He talked about the several government programs aimed at empowering women. He added that women will make good incomes and contribute to the livelihood of their families by joining LIC's BIMA SAKHI.

He encouraged women to become BIMA SAKHI in order to empower themselves. On this occasion, PM Modiji also presented certificates to a handful of Bima Sakhis in an advancement towards Viksit Bharat.

In her speech, Hon. Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman discussed the government's various efforts to empower women, including the Beti Bacho-Beti Padhao, Namo Drone Didi, Lakhpati Didi, and others. She also said that LIC's Bima Sakhi, a Mahila Career Agent program, will help women become financially independent and self-reliant while also facilitating Sabki Suraksha and Sabka Vikas.

Any woman between the age group of 18 and 70 who has completed at least her 10th grade is entitled to apply for BIMA SAKHI. She underlined that the government's numerous women-focused initiatives since 2014 have not only given women more power but also given them the opportunity to take the lead in achieving Viksit Bharat. Bima Sakhi will further bolster the empowerment of women, making them a key component of Viksit Bharat.

The Prime Minister emphasised that the goal of the Bima Sakhi Yojana is to give 2 lakh women employment opportunities. He stated that the Bima Sakhi Yojana will provide three years of training and financial assistance to womens who completed class 10. Shri Modi said that the Bima Sakhis will earn over Rs 1.75 lakh every year, providing additional income for the family, citing statistics from the insurance industry that indicated an average LIC agent makes 15,000 rupees per month.

The goal of the Life Insurance Corporation of India's (LIC) "Bima Sakhi Yojana" program is to empower Class X pass women between the ages of 18 and 70. For the first three years, they will get specialised training and a stipend to raise awareness of insurance and financial literacy. Following training, individuals can work as LIC agents, and Bima Sakhis, a graduate, can apply to be considered for LIC Development Officer positions.

According to Shri Modi, Bima Sakhis would be doing a type of excellent deed by helping to offer social security coverage to many households across the nation.
