A special screening of Chhaava, the Vicky Kaushal-led film based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, will take place in the Parliament library building at the Balayogi Auditorium on Thursday, 27 March. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, several Union Ministers, and Members of Parliament will attend the event.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi with union ministers, and Member of Parliaments (MP) will attend the special screening of Chhaava. The entire cast and crew of the film, including actor Vicky Kaushal, who portrays Sambhaji Maharaj, are expected to attend the screening.

Chhaava

This comes nearly a month after the Prime Minister gave a huge shout-out to the movie for portraying the life, courage, and painful torture that the great Maratha ruler endured at the hands of Aurangzeb.

"It is Maharashtra and Mumbai that have given a new height to Marathi as well as Hindi cinema. These days, Chhaava is making waves throughout the country (In dino to Chhaava ki dhoom machi hui hai). The introduction of Sambhaji Maharaj's valour in this form has been made by Shivaji Sawant's Marathi novel," PM Modi said on February 21 while addressing the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan in the national capital.

Based on Shivaji Sawant's popular novel, Chhaava highlights the story of Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Sambhaji, who fought against the might of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb for around eight years in the 17th century. Carrying forward the defiant approach of his father Chhatrapati Shivaji, he kept Aurangzeb occupied in the Deccan during the latter's reign, inflicting heavy damage on his massive army and pride with unmatched valour and guerilla tactics before being betrayed by his brother-in-law.

Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan, Chhaava explores the legacy of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Actor Vicky Kaushal, who plays the lead role, will also attend the screening alongside the film's creators.

The screening highlights the government's recognition of the historical and cultural significance of the Maratha warrior king, known for his valour and resistance against the Mughal Empire. The event will offer political leaders an opportunity to engage with the cinematic portrayal of his life and contributions.

Recently, the CM of Chhattisgarh, Vishnu Deo Sai also attended the special screening of the film Chhava on March 22nd and praised the movie.

In December last year, the Prime Minister, along with his Cabinet colleagues, attended a special screening of The Sabarmati Report in Parliament. The film depicted the Godhra train burning incident in which 59 people were burned alive on the Sabarmati Express in Gujarat, an event often considered a trigger for the 2002 Gujarat riots.

Chhaava Success At Box Office

Chhaava has remained unstoppable since its theatrical release on February 14. Even with the big IPL 2025 match between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday, audiences continued to flock to theaters to watch the Vicky Kaushal-starrer in its sixth week.

According to Sacnilk, Chhaava saw a 31% rise in collections on Sunday, earning Rs 4.8 crore, bringing its total in India to Rs 583.35 crore. The film had an 18.85% Hindi occupancy that day. Globally, Chhaava has earned Rs 780 crore, including Rs 90.5 crore from overseas markets.

Even in its fourth week, Chhaava remains a dominant force at the box office, continuing to set new records. Directed by Laxman Utekar, the film has surpassed the lifetime earnings of the Hindi version of Baahubali 2, making it the sixth highest-grossing Hindi film of all time.

With its current momentum, Chhaava is closing in on the collections of Pathaan (Rs 524.53 crore) and Gadar 2 (Rs 525.7 crore). Given the absence of major new releases in the near future, it will be interesting to see how soon the film reaches this next milestone.

Chhaava Cast

Alongside lead actor Vicky Kaushal, Chhaava features a star-studded cast including Rashmika Mandanna, Viineet Siingh, Akshaye Khanna, Diana Penty, Ashutosh Rana, and Divya Dutta. Released on February 14, the film has received largely positive reviews from critics and audiences alike.

Controversy Surrounding Film Chhaava

The screening comes amid reports linking Chhaava to recent violence in Nagpur. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that the film has "ignited people's anger against Aurangzeb," suggesting a possible connection between the film's storyline and the unrest. However, netizens and fans have defended the movie, rejecting claims that it was responsible for the violence.
