PM Modi to Inaugurate Metro Rail Link Between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the eagerly awaited metro rail extension from Ahmedabad to Gandhinagar on September 16. This extension aims to enhance connectivity between the two cities during his visit to Gujarat. The PM's two-day visit to his home state begins on September 15, and among various programmes, he will inaugurate the Ahmedabad metro extension Phase 2, according to a Gujarat government release.

Metro Link Opening by PM Modi

This marks Modi's first visit to Gujarat since assuming office for a third term on June 9. The initial segment of Phase 2 covers up to 21 kilometres, introducing eight new metro stations. This will provide efficient transportation services to both residential and commercial areas, as stated in the release.

Metro Network Expansion

The project is being developed by the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) in collaboration with the state government and the Centre. It aims to expand the metro network, linking key locations between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar such as GNLU (Gujarat National Law University), PDEU (Pandit Deendayal Energy University), Gift City, Raysan, Randesan, Dholakuva, Infocity, and Sector-1.

Part two of Phase 1, still under construction, will connect Sector 1 in Gandhinagar to Mahatma Mandir. This locality houses a major convention and exhibition centre in the state capital. The new phase stretches from Motera to Gandhinagar’s Sector-1 and will connect crucial hubs like GIFT City, facilitating easy access for professionals, students, and tourists.

Funding and Costs

The total project cost for Phase 2 metro stands at Rs 5,384 crore. Funding has been secured through loans from international financial institutions such as AFD France and KfW Germany. The extended metro route significantly reduces travel time between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, which are nearly 25km apart.

For instance, commuters can now travel between APMC and GIFT City in under an hour at a cost of around Rs 35. The Ahmedabad Metro Rail Extension represents a significant milestone in Gujarat's development path by improving connectivity between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.

The project offers a more sustainable, affordable, and convenient travel option for all. This new phase will connect important hubs like GIFT City, making it easier for professionals, students, and tourists to access these areas efficiently.

The inauguration of this metro extension is expected to bring substantial benefits by providing seamless transportation services. It aims to cater to both residential and commercial needs while reducing travel time significantly.

The improved connectivity between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar is set to enhance the overall infrastructure of the region. This development aligns with Gujarat's ongoing efforts to provide better transportation facilities for its residents.

The extension is part of a broader initiative to develop a comprehensive metro network that meets the growing demands of urban transportation. By linking key locations within the state, it aims to facilitate economic growth and improve quality of life for its citizens.

The new metro line is expected to ease traffic congestion and reduce pollution levels by offering an efficient alternative to road transport. This initiative underscores the government's commitment to sustainable urban development through enhanced public transport systems.

The launch of this metro extension is a step towards achieving better urban mobility solutions in Gujarat. It reflects the state's dedication to modernising its infrastructure while addressing the transportation needs of its population effectively.

Overall, this project signifies a major advancement in Gujarat's infrastructure development efforts. It highlights the importance of investing in public transport systems that promote sustainability and convenience for all residents.
