Following the inauguration, the prime minister is expected to address a large gathering near the SDB building. In February 2015, former Gujarat chief minister Anandiben Patel performed the ground-breaking ceremony of the SDB and DREAM City project. With 67 lakh square feet of floor space, the SDB is now the world's largest office building having nearly 4,500 diamond trading offices, the release said.

The megastructure, built on a plot of 35.54 acres inside the DREAM City, has nine towers of ground plus 15 floors with office spaces ranging from 300 sq ft to 1 lakh sq ft.
PM Modi will also inaugurate the newly upgraded terminal building of the Surat airport on the same day as per officials.

About Surat Diamond Bourse:

Built at a cost of $384 million the SDB megastructure comprises nine towers with ground plus 15 floors each. The complex houses 4,500 offices, is serviced by 125 lifts, and is interconnected by 24 spine corridors. The diamond house is expected to provide employment directly to 1.5 lakh people.

Surat is renowned for producing over 90% of the world's natural diamonds. The SDB building was established as a comprehensive center facilitating both the manufacturing and trading aspects of the diamond industry.

In July this year, Surat Diamond Bourse in Gujarat state became the world's largest office complex. The structure is designed to accommodate over 65,000 diamond professionals at a time, including cutters, polishers, and traders.
