PNB Customers Must Check Old Zero-Balance Accounts Before September 13; Know Which Accounts May Be Closed
Punjab National Bank (PNB) customers with old and unused accounts should check their account status before the September deadline. According to reports, the bank may close certain zero-balance accounts that have remained without customer-induced transactions for more than three years after September 13, 2026.
PNB Customers Must Check: Old Zero-Balance Accounts Could Be Closed After September 13
The reported closure exercise covers accounts that met the specified conditions as of June 30, 2026. Customers who want to retain such an account have been advised to contact their nearest PNB branch and complete the required formalities, including KYC updation where applicable.

According to the reported advisory, the proposed closure applies to accounts that have a nil balance and have remained inactive for more than three years. Customers with old accounts should therefore verify whether their account falls under these conditions rather than assuming that every unused PNB account will be closed.
PNB's own guidance states that savings and current accounts can be classified as inoperative when there has been no customer-induced transaction for a continuous period of 24 months.
What Should PNB Customers Do If Account Gets Deactivated?
Customers who want to continue using an affected account should contact PNB and check its current status. If KYC updation or other formalities are required, these should be completed before the reported September 13, 2026 deadline.
PNB's guidelines allow customers to request activation of an inoperative account after completing the applicable KYC requirements.
Customers who no longer need an old account can ask the bank about the formal closure procedure. Before doing so, they should check whether the account is linked to any salary credit, pension, subsidy, loan repayment, insurance payment or other financial transaction.
Customers should also use only official PNB channels for account-related assistance. PNB provides facilities for checking and managing inoperative or dormant accounts through its official platforms.
The reported September 13 deadline makes it important for customers with old, zero-balance accounts to verify their status in advance. Those who still need the account should complete the required formalities, while customers who no longer need it can contact the bank for proper closure.
PNB has also shared 1800-1800 as a customer-care number in its communication regarding such accounts.
