Postal Department Launches Drone Mail Transmission Proof of Concept in Arunachal Pradesh

The Department of Posts has initiated a trial to use drones for mail delivery in Arunachal Pradesh. This trial aims to test the feasibility of drone usage in challenging terrains. On October 21, 2024, the trial began with a drone flight between Chowkham Post Office and Wakro Branch Post Office. The drone took off from Chowkham at 10:40 AM and reached Wakro by 11:02 AM. For the return trip, it departed Wakro at 11:44 AM and landed back at Chowkham by 12:08 PM. This route covers a distance of 45 km.

Traditionally, mail between these locations takes about 2-2.5 hours via Arunachal Pradesh State Transport buses due to the rugged terrain.
