Pakistan has declared a local holiday in Islamabad as it prepares to host high-level talks between the United States and Iran, marking a significant diplomatic moment amid ongoing tensions. The Islamabad Capital Territory administration announced that April 11, 2026 (Saturday), will be observed as a public holiday within city limits, except for essential services.

According to the official notification, critical departments such as municipal services, the capital development authority, police, electricity and gas utilities, and hospitals will continue to function. The move is aimed at ensuring smooth arrangements and heightened security during the high-profile diplomatic engagement.

The meeting follows a recently announced two-week ceasefire, signalling a potential window for diplomatic progress. Pakistan has stepped in as a facilitator, positioning itself as a neutral ground for dialogue between the two sides.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif earlier confirmed that Islamabad would host the talks, highlighting the country's role in supporting efforts to de-escalate tensions. High Security Around Key Locations in Islamabad

Security has been significantly tightened across Islamabad, particularly in areas linked to the visiting delegations. Authorities have cordoned off a roughly 3-kilometre radius around the Serena Hotel, where both delegations are expected to stay. The hotel has been reserved exclusively for the talks, and regular guests have been asked to vacate until the conclusion of the meetings.
