PVR Stock Falls 3% Amid Dhurandhar 2 Shows Cancellation; Will Ranveer Singh's Revenge Sweet For This Multiplex

PVR Inox, the leading multiplex stock, emerged in focus as the much-awaited Dhurandhar: The Revenge hit Indian theaters on March 19. PVR is expected to benefit big time from the box office collection from Dhurandhar 2, which is predicted to be massive and bigger than its first part. Ranveer Singh is back and fans are all excited. However, after rising by around 2% in the opening bell of March 19th, PVR Inox stock plunged to nearly 3% as Dhurandhar 2 shows a witnessed cancellation in some parts of India.

PVR Inox Share Price:

At the time of writing, PVR INOX traded at Rs 995.25 apiece on BSE, down by 2.5% with market cap of Rs 9,773.35 crore. The stock is near its intraday low of Rs 992 apiece.

Due to this, PVR INOX erased its early gains of nearly 2% wit intraday high of Rs 1,040 per share.

Why Dhurandhar 2 Matters For PVR Inox?

As per Jinesh Joshi, Research Analyst - PL Capita, Dhurandhar: The Revenge has potential to salvage the quarter for PVR-INOX which otherwise appears to be a bit lukewarm as barring Border-2, none of the Bollywood movies like O'Romeo, Mardani-3 or The Kerala Story-2 have been able to strike a chord with the audience.

Not just that Dhurandhar 2 is expected to boost the revenue of overall industry wide box office collections. If Dhurandhar 2 becomes a hit, the industry BO collections is estimated to be around RS 15,114 million.

"If we assume, Dhurandhar: The Revenge collects ~Rs10 billion (base case scenario) and 75% of the collections accrue in the first 14-15 days, industry wide BO collections for the quarter will be similar to 4QFY25. Thus, Hamza's revenge is likely to benefit PVR-INOX in 4QFY26E. We have a BUY on the stock with a TP of Rs1,274 (9.5x FY28E EBITDA)," Joshi added.

But cancellation of Dhurandhar 2 shows in some regions could be a huge drawback.

Dhurandhar: The Revenge Premiere Cancellation:

Dhurandhar is being rolled out in Indian and outside multiplexes on March 19. However, several premiere shows in Kannada and Malayalam have reportedly been cancelled, which has left fans disheartened.

Aditya Dhar, the most loved director as of now, has issued an apology to Dhurandhar fans over the cancellation of shows in some languages.

Through his X account, Dhar said, "Dhurandhar is not just a film for us - it is something we have lived with, nurtured, and dreamed of sharing with each and every one of you, together, at the same moment, in every language."

"Most of our Hindi shows across India are running as scheduled from 5 pm onwards," adding he said, "All of our Tamil and Telugu shows will commence from 9 pm onwards."

However, Dhar revealed that "due to unforeseen technical difficulties, our Malayalam and Kannada shows will begin from tomorrow morning."

"If the dubbed version you have tickets for is not currently playing at your cinema, you will have an option for refund or to watch the Hindi version with subtitles instead," he guided.

"We truly apologise for the inconvenience," Dhar said, "Your love for this film means the world to us, and we cannot wait to share it with you."

Will Dhurandhar 2 surpass Dhurandhar 2025?

Joshi believes Dhurandhar: The Revenge has the potential of surpassing the collections of its predecessor. The reasons are:

1. The prequel has built a strong goodwill around itself.

2. The movie will enjoy a solo run as release of "Toxic" has been postponed.

3. Unlike Dhurandhar, which released only in Hindi, Dhurandhar: The Revenge will release in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.

4. Release coincides with festivals like Eid and Gudi Padwa.

5. Blockbuster pricing (Dhurandhar was a sleeper hit, but the sequel is a highly anticipated movie and will command better pricing).

6. Possibility of having a 24/7 screening model (shows past mid-night).

As per Sacnilk, Dhurandhar: The Revenge has already amassed Rs405 million, gross, in paid previews. Advance ticket sales for 19th March 2026 (day-1) have already crossed Rs290mn, gross.

Given exciting initial trends, Joshi said, "we believe the movie may well break into the "All Time Highest Hindi Advance Bookings" list and achieve top-spot by toppling KGF-2."

Dhurandhar 2 vs Dhurandhar 2025:

Dhurandhar The Revenge introduces Jaskirat Singh Rangi, tracing the chain of events that compel him to become Hamza Ali Mazari, and follows his rise as he operates deep inside Pakistan. The film returns this time in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam, as per the official trailer release.

The sequel once again has Ranveer Singh in the lead role. Alongside him, the movie will have a power-packed cast including Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi, Danish Pandor and Gaurav Gera.

Coming to the predecessor, Dhurandar became the biggest blockbuster of Bollywood of all-time. The 2025 movie witnessed a worldwide box office collection of Rs 1,305.35 crore, making it the best Hindi film and third highest grosser of all time in Indian cinema after Baahubali 2 and Pushpa. The India net collection stood at Rs 838.5 crore, which makes it the fourth best movie in that category, but still the best from Bollywood.
