Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Yes Bank Q2 Results

"Growth momentum strengthened further in Q2FY27. Large private banks reported strong loan growth in their provisional updates, led by Kotak Bank (24.7% YoY), Axis Bank (22.7% YoY) and HDFC Bank (16.3% YoY). FCNR-B was a key contributor: Excluding loans extended against FCNR-B, loan growth stood at 18.8%/18.8%/14.3% YoY for Kotak (also ex-KMIL)/Axis/HDFC Bank," said analysts at JM Financial in their preview note.

Further, these analysts expect healthy balance sheet growth and benign credit costs to support earnings in Q2FY27 despite lower margins. They expect OPEX growth of ~7% YoY for their coverage, well below balance sheet growth, driving PPoP growth of ~8% YoY. Among large banks, earnings growth should be strong for Axis Bank (+33% YoY on a low base) and ICICI Bank (+15%) and muted for HDFC Bank and SBI (~1% YoY).

In their provisional data for the July-September 2026 quarter ahead of earnings, HDFC Bank posted 18.8% growth in overall deposits in Q2 to Rs 33,275 billion, compared to Rs 28,018 billion in Q2 of FY26. Meanwhile, its total gross advances soared by 16.3% to Rs 32,195 billion as of the September 2026 quarter, compared to Rs 27,692 billion in Q2FY26. In the quarter, HDFC Bank's advance under management stood at Rs 33,075 billion, registering a growth of 15.3%. While average CASA deposits gained by 10.7% to Rs 9,712 billion in Q2FY27.

Meanwhile, in Q2FY27, Yes Bank posted 23.8% YoY growth in loans and advances to Rs 309,675 crore, while deposits registered 19.5% YoY growth to Rs 354,084 crore. CASA ratio, however, fell to 30% in Q2FY27 versus 32.7% in Q1FY27 and 33.7% in Q2FY26. The bank's liquidity coverage ratio expanded to 131.4% in Q2FY27 from 125.1% in Q2FY26, but narrowed from 138.2% in Q1FY27.

Additionally, Axis Bank had reported 22.7% YoY growth and 8.8% QoQ surge in gross advances to Rs 13,846 billion in their provisional update for Q2FY27. Total deposits climbed 20.7% YoY and 5.8% QoQ to Rs 14,521 billion.

Central Bank Of India, Punjab & Sind Bank, IDBI Bank: PSU Banks Vs Private Banks Q2 Earnings

Overall for Indian banks in Q2FY27, analysts at Kotak Institutional Equities said, "We are building in credit cost at lower levels, factoring in lower slippages for the sector, while we expect recoveries from bad loans to keep credit costs lower for PSU banks. Segments that were impacted by the recent MFI and other unsecured loan portfolio are showing consistent improvement, and we should see this translating into lower credit costs across players. Importantly, non-financial overhangs, including management-transition concerns, appear largely behind us, particularly at HDFC Bank."

They added, "We expect 2QFY27 to be a stable quarter. We expect ~11% yoy earnings growth. We expect NII to grow 11% yoy and non-interest income to decline due to lower treasury income. We expect private banks to report 20% yoy earnings growth (lower base in select banks such as IIB and Axis Bank) and PSU banks to report flat yoy earnings decline (factoring in the recent disclosure from BoB). We expect NIM to be stable or marginally lower qoq depending on the quantum of deposits raised through FCNR deposits, while lending yields have been stable for the quarter."
