PAN 2.0 Project: Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the launch of PAN 2.0 on Monday, introducing a major upgrade to the existing PAN card with the addition of a QR code. The enhanced PAN card will serve as a common business identifier across all digital systems used by government agencies, streamlining processes and ensuring seamless integration for taxpayers.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given a green signal to the PAN 2.0 Project for the Income Tax Department by allocating a substantial Rs 1,435 crore to the project as stated in the official release. This initiative by the government of India is all set to transform the current taxpayer registration system with enhanced technology, making the entire process even smoother for common people.

What is Pan 2.0?
PAN 2.0 is a new initiative by the Indian government to upgrade the Permanent Account Number (PAN) system. This project is designed to revamp the existing PAN and Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number (TAN) systems in order to improve taxpayer registration and verification processes.
This PAN 2.0 project is an important leap toward e-Governance, stressing technology-driven approaches for taxpayer operations. The government is planning on improving the PAN issuing and verification system, making it quicker and more user-friendly for individuals as well as businesses.
Key Benefits of PAN 2.0
As per the latest release from the Press Bureau of India (PIB), the government promises several advantages for taxpayers, focusing on efficiency, security, and environmental sustainability. The benefits outlined are as follows:

Is Your Old PAN Card Still Valid?
Yes, your old PAN card remains fully valid and functional. The PAN 2.0 initiative is an upgrade designed to enhance the functionality of PAN cards, including the introduction of a QR code for improved digital integration. However, this upgrade does not affect the validity of existing PAN cards.
