Queenslands commitment to enhancing economic ties with India is reinforced as the state opens a trade and investment office in Mumbai. The office aims to foster closer trade relations, with a focus on sectors like education, sports science, innovation, and tourism.
In a significant move to strengthen economic ties between Queensland and India, the Queensland Minister for Tourism Innovation and Sport, Stirling Hinchliffe, inaugurated a trade and investment office in Mumbai on Thursday, December 7. This office, known as Trade and Investment Queensland's (TIQ) Mumbai office, is part of Hinchliffe's ongoing visit to India and underscores TIQ's crucial role in fostering closer trade relations between the two regions.

Enhancing Economic Collaboration
Hinchliffe's five-day mission to India underscores Queensland's commitment to enhancing economic collaboration with the country. It marks the first ministerial visit since the launch of the Queensland-India Trade Strategy 2023-2027 earlier this year. Accompanied by a diverse delegation, the mission focuses on strengthening partnerships with Indian counterparts across various sectors, including trade, education, sports science, innovation and technology, aviation, and tourism.
Strategic Co-location and Expansion
Recognizing the importance of the Australia – India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (AI-ECTA), Hinchliffe highlighted the opportunities it presents for economic collaboration between Queensland and India. He announced the strategic co-location of Queensland state specialists within the Austrade office at the Australian Consulate-General in Mumbai, symbolizing a strong "Team Australia" approach. This expansion into a broader network not only signifies Queensland's growth but also reinforces its commitment to providing comprehensive market development and local intelligence support for universities and corporate clients from the state.
Realizing the Trade and Investment Strategy
Hinchliffe emphasized that this visit marks a significant step towards realizing the Queensland-India Trade and Investment Strategy 2023–2027. He noted the immense importance of India to the state of Queensland and expressed his confidence that the new office in Mumbai will build upon the strong foundation laid by the TIQ headquarters in Bengaluru. This expansion into a broader network signifies Queensland's commitment to providing comprehensive market development and local intelligence support for its valued universities and corporate clients.
The inauguration of the TIQ Mumbai office and Hinchliffe's visit to India underscore Queensland's commitment to strengthening economic ties with India. By fostering closer trade relations and expanding its presence in the country, Queensland aims to capitalize on the opportunities presented by the AI-ECTA and further enhance its economic collaboration with India.
