IMD Weather Forecast: Heatwave Likely to Persist in Delhi NCR & North India, Relief Expected Soon
Across the northern plains, multiple cities crossed the 40°C mark, with some locations touching up to 46°C. Residents have been facing scorching daytime heat, accompanied by hot winds and prolonged exposure to harsh sunlight, raising concerns over heat-related health risks.

According to the India Meteorological Department, heatwave conditions are expected to continue for the next few days. A yellow alert has been issued for Delhi, with temperatures likely to rise further and hover around 44°C.
Authorities have advised people to limit outdoor activity, particularly during peak afternoon hours, as vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions remain at higher risk.
However, weather models indicate a shift in conditions as a series of western disturbances approach north India. These systems are expected to gradually bring down temperatures and provide temporary relief from the extreme heat.
Rain Likely in Delhi-NCR Between 28 and 30 April 2026: Thunderstorms and Dust Storms to Bring Change
Forecasts suggest that weather conditions will begin to change from the evening of April 27, with isolated dust storms and light rainfall likely in parts of Delhi and nearby regions. Between April 28 and April 30, more widespread activity is expected, including thunderstorms, gusty winds and short spells of rain.
States such as Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and parts of Bihar are also likely to witness similar weather patterns during this period.
Weather experts note that while the incoming systems could offer respite, the extent of relief will depend on how widespread and sustained the rainfall activity turns out to be. If conditions develop as expected, temperatures across north India may see a noticeable dip, at least temporarily, easing the ongoing heatwave spell.
