Raja Shivaji Box Office: Ritesh Deshmukh's Film Breaks New Record, Beats Kangana Ranaut's Manikarnika

Raja Shivaji, the epic historical movie surrounding the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, has witnessed a record-breaking opening in the Marathi language. Raja Shivaji, starring Ritesh Deshmukh, bags over Rs 11 crore collection on Day 1, setting a new record for Marathi cinema. Not just that, Raja Shivaji has also surpassed the box office collection of Kangana Ranaut's Manikarnika, which was another autobiography of Queen of Jhansi.

As per Sacnilk data, Raja Shivaji recorded box office of Rs 11.35 crore with 6,192 shows on Day 1. The most demand was seen in Marathi language which saw a box office of Rs 8 crore with 68% occupancy despite having 1,941 shows which is half of 4,251 shows that was released in Hindi language for the opening day.

In Hindi, the movie recorded a collection of Rs 3.35 crore with occupancy rate of 16%.

Another Sacnilk report revealed that the film's exceptional start is largely driven by its Marathi version, which has recorded strong occupancy across multiplexes and single screens alike in Maharashtra. Also, the scale, subject, and mounting of Raja Shivaji have clearly struck a chord with audiences. With this opening, the film has not only set a new record but also raised the commercial ceiling for Marathi cinema, proving that regional films can deliver blockbuster-level openings with the right mix of content and presentation.

Raja Shivaji VS Manikarnika Box Office Collection:

Riding on the back of strong collection in Marathi, Ritesh Deshmukh's Raja Shivaji surpassed the opening day box office collection of Manikarnika which is a Kangana Ranaut starrer.

Released in 2019, Manikarnika bagged Rs 8.75 crore on Day 1. Among other historical movies, Om Raut and Ajay Devgn's Tanhaji (2020) saw a box office collection of Rs 15.10 crore on Day 1. The best performer so far is Laxman Utekar and Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava that was released in 2025. Chhaava's opening day collection was whopping Rs 33.50 crore.

Raja Shivaji is a 2026 Indian historical action drama film co-written and directed by Riteish Deshmukh, based on the life of Shivaji, the founder of the Maratha Empire. The film is produced by Genelia Deshmukh and Jyoti Deshpande under Mumbai Film Company and Jio Studios. The film features Riteish Deshmukh in the titular role, alongside Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi, Amole Gupte, and Genelia Deshmukh, as per Wikipedia.
