The six-member Monetary Policy Committee includes RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra as the Chairperson, Deputy Governor Dr. Poonam Gupta, RBI Executive Director Indranil Bhattacharyya, and three external members appointed by the Central Government Prof. Ram Singh, economist Saugata Bhattacharya, and Dr. Nagesh Kumar.

What Are Markets Expecting?

According to economists surveyed by Bloomberg and Reuters, the RBI is highly expected to keep the repo rate unchanged at 5.25%. While retail inflation is currently within the central bank's tolerance band, the bank is expected to remain cautious amid global uncertainties, geopolitical tensions, rising crude oil prices, and pressure on the Rupee.

During the June monetary policy meeting which was conducted from June 3rd to June 5th when the RBI made no changes to the repo rate and left it unchanged at 5.25%. The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) also maintained its 'neutral' policy stance.

At the same time, the standing deposit facility (SDF) rate was kept at 5%, while the marginal standing facility (MSF) rate and the bank rate remained unchanged at 5.5%.
