Reliance Jio Brings Back Rs 189 Prepaid Plan – Validity, Features

India's one of the leading telecoms, Reliance Jio, has recently re-introduced its Rs 189 prepaid pack under the category 'affordable packs' within its broader 'value pack' section. The relaunch of this budget-friendly pack, which was discontinued along with Rs 479 prepaid pack, intends to cater the needs of customers looking for an affordable option.

With the Rs 189 prepaid plan, the subscribers can enjoy :

300 free SMS

2GB of data at an unspecified high speed, post which unlimited data is available at a speed of 64Kbps

Free JioTV, JioCinema and JioCloud subscriptions (However, it does not support complementary JioCinema Premium Access)

Validity

The Rs 189 prepaid plan offers a 28-day validity period.

The Rs 189 prepaid plan is one of the most affordable plans with the next tier being Rs 198, which offers 2GB high-speed data per day, along with unlimited 5G, and OTT benefits like JioSaavn Pro for a period of 14 days. The telecom company is expected to launch more affordable packs with extended validity for its customers.

New Voice-Only Prepaid Plans

The re-introduction of the Rs 189 prepaid comes after Reliance Jio announced the launch of two new voice-only prepaid plans priced at Rs. 1,958 and Rs. 458, with 336 days and 84 days of validity. Later, the prices of packs Rs. 1,958 and Rs. 458 were later adjusted to Rs 1,748 and Rs 448, respectively, following criticism over potential unavailability of data add-ons on its voice and SMS-only plans.

The Rs 1,748 prepaid plan offers 3,600 SMS and complimentary subscriptions to JioTV, JioCinema and JioCloud, whereas Rs 448 plan provides 1,000 SMS and complimentary subscriptions to JioTV, JioCinema and JioCloud.
However, Jio stated that the subscribers of Rs 1,748 and Rs 448 packs can recharge with data add-on packs such Rs 11, Rs 19, and Rs 29 add-on packs, which are available on all Jio recharge channels.

Why Reliance Jio Is Revising Its Prepaid Plans ?

The re-introduction and revision of certain prepaid plans comes as the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has asked telecom providers to offer standalone special tariff vouchers (STVs) for voice calls and SMS. The TRAI's mandate has intensified competition among telecom companies, who are striving to maintain their position in the price-sensitive market.

The recent move of Reliance Jio also highlights its efforts to adapt to the changing market requirements and meet demands of customers.
