Reliance Jio Offers More Data, BSNL Offers Free Broadband Amid Covid19 Outbreak

Anticipating increase in data consumption due to increasing work from home by employees across industries amid coronavirus pandemic, telecom companies including Reliance Jio and state-owned BSNL have stepped in and upgraded their offerings. For instance, Reliance Jio in its four 4G vouchers of Rs. 11, Rs. 21, Rs. 51 and Rs. 101 now offers 800 MB, 2GB, 6GB and 12GB data, respectively. This is twice of what was being provided earlier. Additionally, these packs also combine voice service to non-Jio subscribers offering 75, 200, 500 and 1000 minutes, respectively to any of the non-Jio network across the country.

"Through these voucher upgrades Jio is extending help to the users and ensuring that Indians have access to uninterrupted, abundant and affordable data to meet their current connectivity needs," the company said.

Now with spike in coronavirus cases in India, as the Maharashtra government has announced closure of all non-essential workplaces, and with other states to follow, data consumption is set to go higher for work-related or recreational requirements.

Also, on the sidelines, state-run BSNL has announced free broadband services to its landline customers for one month time. The free service shall be extended to BSNL customers who do not have any broadband subscriptions. The company said the process for availing this service has been rendered completely paperless and customers need not visit customer service centre for availing the services.
