On the occasion of World Environment Day, a significant development in India's employment landscape has been highlighted, showing a robust increase in job demand within the renewable energy sector. A report released by TeamLease Services on Wednesday has brought to light an impressive 23.7 per cent growth in job opportunities in this sector for the fiscal year 2023-24. This marks a substantial rise from the 8.5 per cent growth recorded in the previous fiscal year, underscoring a vibrant expansion in renewable energy employment.

The surge in job demand is particularly notable in tier II and III cities, which are pivotal locations for renewable energy projects. The report identifies a variety of roles that are in high demand, including operations, maintenance, and technical positions. Furthermore, there is an increasing need for solar PV and wind turbine technicians and installers, roofers, production operators, storage operators, and waste management specialists.
Subburathinam P., CSO Staffing at TeamLease Services, commented on the findings, stating, "We are witnessing a positive trend in the renewable sector's workforce. The renewable energy sector is more than just about green energy; it is about fostering a resilient and engaged workforce passionate about making a difference." He also highlighted the decline in attrition rates as evidence of employees finding meaningful and engaging careers within this sector.
The insights from the report are based on an internal data analysis of renewable energy companies that TeamLease Services collaborates with. It was found that the attrition rate has decreased to 33.5 per cent in FY24 from 38.8 per cent in 2022-23. This reduction points towards a growing sense of stability and job satisfaction among employees in the renewable energy field.
Kartik Narayan, CEO of Staffing at TeamLease Services, reflected on the industry's progress, stating, "The growth in jobs and reduced attrition rates highlight the industry's evolving dynamics. There is a commitment to creating an environment where talent thrives and contributes to a sustainable future." He emphasized that these insights mark a transformative chapter for the renewable energy sector, characterized by resilience and opportunities.
The report also sheds light on the educational qualifications of the workforce within this sector. It reveals that 22.9 per cent of employees have completed their 10th and 12th grade education, while a significant 73 per cent hold an ITI (Industrial Training Institute), diploma or graduation degree. Additionally, 4.1 per cent of the workforce possesses postgraduate degrees. This diversity in educational backgrounds underscores the sector's inclusive hiring practices and its openness to individuals from various academic paths contributing to the renewable energy mission.
This comprehensive analysis by TeamLease Services underscores not only the growing job market within India's renewable energy sector but also highlights its role in fostering a stable and satisfied workforce dedicated to advancing sustainable energy solutions.
