Renewal Of DL, Registration Of Vehicle To Be Now Possible Online Using Aadhaar

In a recent notification by the IT ministry in respect of aadhaar authentication, biometric identification will now enable Indian citizens to avail some of the services online, including receiving learner's license, renewal of driving license, registration of vehicles or RC and even change in address in all such documents.

Earlier last month, the road and the transport ministry wrote to the IT ministry to bring all such online services within the framework of the Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance (Social Welfare, Innovation, Knowledge) rules.

The proposal aimed at removing all such fake as well as multiple licenses that have been obtained by vehicle drives as well as owners.

"The central government may allow Aadhaar authentication by requesting entities in the interest of good governance, preventing leakage of public funds, promoting ease of living of residents and enabling better access to services for them", said the Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance (Social Welfare, Innovation, Knowledge) Rules, 2020, the earlier proposal of the road and the transport ministry.
