Jagdeep Dhankhar Emphasises Research as Key to Economic Supremacy and Global Influence

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar highlighted the crucial role of research in achieving economic dominance and global recognition. He stated that countries excelling in research gain respect in economic, strategic, and international spheres. During his visit to the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), he interacted with faculty, students, and staff, emphasising the importance of authentic research that positively impacts society.

Dhankhar Highlights Research for Economic Supremacy

Dhankhar stressed that research should not merely serve as a credential or profile enhancer. It must create significant change and have a cascading effect on people's lives. "Research that sits on a shelf, research done merely for credentials, or research that only embellishes a profile is not true research. Research that merely scratches the surface is not research," he said.

Research and Technological Advancements

The Vice President acknowledged the transformative impact of technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Blockchain, and Machine Learning. He referred to these as disruptive technologies that present both challenges and opportunities. Dhankhar urged a focus on harnessing opportunities from these technologies through advanced research.

He noted that industries, businesses, trade, and commerce are propelled by research. The government is aware of this dynamic landscape and is actively responding to it. Dhankhar expressed optimism about India's potential to lead in technological advancements due to its intellectual capabilities.

Historical Contributions and Corporate Involvement

Dhankhar reflected on India's historical contributions to mathematics and science, citing figures like Aryabhatta and Brahmagupta. He mentioned renowned scientists such as Raman, Bose, Sarabhai, Chandrasekhar, Shah, Bhatnagar, and former presidents who have shaped India's scientific orientation.

He called upon corporates to actively support research initiatives alongside the government. Dhankhar highlighted the need for liberal contributions beyond Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds. He pointed out that global corporates invest significantly in research and development.

Combating Corruption Through Technology

The Vice President remarked on past issues where corruption influenced opportunities and business licenses. He noted that technological applications have helped neutralise these problems. Dhankhar emphasised the importance of scientific progress in driving strategic national development.

He reiterated India's rich scientific heritage and its achievements in space research as evidence of its scientific strength. Dhankhar underscored the necessity of investing in research to maintain global leadership.

The Vice President concluded by expressing confidence in India's vast intellectual potential to lead in technological advancements. He urged continued investment in research to ensure sustained progress and global influence.
