Retail Inflation Rises To 7.34% In Sept On Increase In Food Prices
On Monday, data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation showed that retail inflation rose to an eight-month high of 7.34 percent in September when compared to 6.69 percent in August. The level of inflation, measured by Consumer Price Index (CPI), continues to remain above RBI's target range of 2-6 percent for the seventh consecutive month.
As per the data, rural CPI in September stood at 7.43 percent and urban CPI at 7.26 percent. In August, rural and urban CPI was at 6.66 percent and 6.80 percent respectively.
Overall Food Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI) for September was at a staggering 10.68 percent from 9.05 percent in August. In rural India, food inflation was recorded at 10.60 percent and 10.94 percent in urban India.
