Retail Inflation Spikes In November To 5.54% On Costly Food Items

As per the data released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) on Thursday, retail inflation for the month of November spiked to 5.54% on the back of increase in the price of food articles. For the October month, CPI inflation stood at 4.62%.

Food inflation surged to 10.01% during the period under review, while for the previous month it came in at 7.89% and -2.61% in the corresponding month a year ago.

Vegetable inflation jumped substantially to 36% in November from 5.4% in September. Also, prices of fruits scaled to 4.08% from 0.83%.

Cereal inflation also grew to 3.71% in November from 2.61% in the previous month.

The RBI has to maintain inflation well within the targeted level of 4%, with a margin of 2% either way.
