What will happen when the rocket man meets his fan? An explosion of excitement? The US presidential candidate Donald Trump has just dropped the bomb on his upcoming interview with Elon Musk, the CEO of electric car giant Tesla and the spacecraft manufacturer SpaceX.
Trump has confirmed the interview through his social media post. He said on Truth Social, "ON MONDAY NIGHT I'LL BE DOING A MAJOR INTERVIEW WITH ELON MUSK - Details to follow!" The time of the interview is yet to be known!
Both Trump and Musk are one of the most influential people in the world. One is the former US president, while Musk is the richest man in the world currently. It's an interview of a lifetime.
Trump is the Republican Party nominee for the upcoming US election 2024, while Musk is an ex-democrat supporter.
The interview is likely to get a lot of hype and attention amidst the latest social and political chaos in the United States, while a recession fear continues to loom on the country's economy and interest rates stay at multi-decadal highs.
In recent times, both Trump and Musk have praised each other and shown support for each other's field of work. Is this interview, a match-made in heaven?
Not many details of the interview are provided except the date. For further updates, keep a look out! However, it isn't the first time the two would be sitting in the same room and talking to each other.
As per reports, Trump had met Musk in March along with other wealthy donors. However, Musk was quick to clarify that he is not donating money to either of the candidates for the US presidential election. The Tesla CEO further denied in May over news articles of being roped in for an advisory role in Trump's presidency.
In the past few months, Musk has leaned towards right-wing views. Noticeably, Musk has been vocal about social issues in the US such as 'woke-ism' and its rapid surge and the effect it brought to many lives, as per his personal experience. He has also changed his stance related to the latest war between Israel and Gaza, where he showed solidarity with the Jewish nation and condemned the rise of antisemitic in the nation. Something he has in common with Trump.
Recently, Musk called the former US president tough, while last month, Trump revealed that he is a fan of Musk, and also acknowledged the billionaire businessman, stating that he does an incredible job with Tesla.
According to a report, an interview with Musk is likely to be beneficial for Trump as the SpaceX founder has a footprint of a whopping 193.1 million followers, more than double the 87.9 million followers of Trump. The interview is likely to reach a great amount of audience, especially when Twitter now known as 'X' is also owned by Musk as well.
Notably, both Trump and Musk weren't all sweet to one another since the start. In fact, Musk who was a hardcore democratic party supporter, had a riff-off with Trump on social media. In July 2022, the billionaire called Trump as 'too old to be' the president of the United States and that he should 'sail into sunset'. Trump clapped back by referring to Musk as a "bull***t artist".
Musk has been supporting the Democratic party for a long time. When Trump was competing to become the 45th President of the US in 2016, Musk had voted for his rival Hillary Clinton. Musk even picked Joe Biden and his administration over Trump. Not just that Musk also revealed that he was planning to vote for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for president in 2024.
However, Musk has recently started to embrace right-wing conservative opinions amidst the issue of free speed. He openly supports Trump since the latter's assassination attempt last month/
On the other hand, Trump also spoke earlier that he supports electric vehicles policy since Musk endorsed him while at the same time criticised current President Joe Biden's EV policy which aims to electrify all new light-duty vehicles by 2027 and to make all federal vehicles acquisitions electric by 2035.
At 78 years of age, Trump is an American politician, media personality, and businessman who served as the 45th president of the United States from 2017 to 2021. Trump won the 2016 presidential election as the Republican Party nominee against Democratic Party candidate Hillary Clinton while losing the popular vote.
As president, Trump ordered a travel ban on citizens from several Muslim-majority countries, diverted military funding toward building a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border, and implemented a family separation policy. He rolled back more than 100 environmental policies and regulations. He signed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, which cut taxes and eliminated the individual health insurance mandate penalty of the Affordable Care Act. He appointed Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett to the U.S. Supreme Court, as per Wikipedia. Also, the report said that he reacted slowly to the COVID-19 pandemic, ignored or contradicted many recommendations from health officials, used political pressure to interfere with testing efforts, and spread misinformation about unproven treatments. Trump initiated a trade war with China and withdrew the U.S. from the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement, the Paris Agreement on climate change, and the Iran nuclear deal. He met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un three times but made no progress on denuclearization.
Meanwhile, at 53 years of age, Musk is a businessman and investor known for his key roles in space company SpaceX and automotive company Tesla, Inc. Other involvements include ownership of X Corp., the company that operates the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), and his role in the founding of The Boring Company, xAI, Neuralink and OpenAI. He is one of the wealthiest people in the world; as of August 2024, Forbes estimates his net worth to be $241 billion.
Further, Musk has expressed views that have made him a polarizing figure. He has been criticized for making unscientific and misleading statements, including COVID-19 misinformation, promoting right-wing conspiracy theories, and "endorsing an antisemitic theory", the latter of which he later apologized for. His ownership of Twitter has been similarly controversial, being marked by layoffs of large numbers of employees, an increase in hate speech, misinformation and disinformation posts on the website, and changes to Twitter Blue verification, as per Wikipedia.
Musk bought X for $44 billion in April 2022.
