Rupee Gains 4 Paise To Close At Rs 83.21 Against US Dollar

The rupee gained 4 paise to close at 83.21 (provisional) against the US dollar on Friday as BSE Sensex gained 364 points to 65,995 and Nifty 50 jumped 107 points to 19,653. Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India opted to keep the policy rate unchanged at 6.5% for fourth consecutive time as it seeks to keep a tight watch on inflation.

RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said India is poised to be the new growth engine of the world.

Rupee Vs Dollar

Selling pressure from foreign equity investors amid elevated levels of the greenback, however, restricted the upward movement of the local currency, according to forex traders.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 83.21 against the dollar and traded between a high of 83.28 and a low of 83.18. It finally settled at 83.21 (provisional) against the dollar, up 4 paise over Thursday's closing level of 83.25, according to a PTI report.
