Saksham 2026 Campaign Concludes with Strong Call for Energy Conservation and Efficiency

The Saksham 2026 campaign, focusing on energy efficiency and fuel conservation, concluded recently. Organised by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas with public sector oil and gas companies, it saw significant participation in Punjab and Chandigarh. The initiative aimed to encourage the use of energy-efficient appliances and promote sustainable practices.

Energy Conservation as a Habit

During the closing event at Rani Laxmi Bai Bhawan, Ashutosh Gupta, Executive Director of Indian Oil Corporation, emphasised the need for energy conservation to become a daily practice. He highlighted India's growing energy needs and reliance on crude oil imports, stressing that efficient fuel use is crucial for national energy security and environmental protection.

Collective Responsibility for Fuel Efficiency

Jaideep Jain from GAIL and Ramlal from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited also addressed attendees. They underscored the shared responsibility in achieving fuel efficiency. Their speeches reinforced the importance of collective efforts in reducing fuel consumption and emissions through simple actions.

The campaign included various activities such as walkathons, cyclothons, and fuel-efficient driving sessions. Awareness programmes were held at retail outlets and CNG stations, alongside school competitions, LPG safety initiatives, industry workshops, and social media outreach. These events aimed to educate the public on sustainable practices.

Promoting Sustainable Practices

Speakers at the closing ceremony highlighted practical steps to cut down on fuel use. Suggestions included avoiding vehicle idling, using public transport or carpooling, maintaining vehicles regularly, and adopting energy-efficient appliances. These measures can significantly lower fuel consumption and emissions.

Organisers expressed their ongoing commitment to promoting fuel conservation and environmental protection beyond the campaign's duration. They aim to continue raising awareness about sustainable practices throughout the year to ensure lasting impact.
