Sanam Teri Kasam Re-Release Box Office Collection: From FLOP To Blockbuster; Could It Hit Rs 60 Crore Mark?

Sanam Teri Kasam Re-Release Box Office Collection: The Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane classic romantic cult movie, has turned its tide over the past 9 years. From being a FLOP in its original release era to becoming a blockbuster hit in 2025 during its re-release, Sanam Teri Kasam has seen a roller coaster ride. The movie has joined the Rs 50 crore collection club worldwide, while its India nett collection is over Rs 41 crore, which is about 354.4% growth from the initial net collection.

As per data from Sacnilk, Sanam Teri Kasam's re-release bagged a nett collection of Rs 41.35 crore by the end of February 23, 2024. While its gross collection in India was at Rs 50.3 crore. That being said, its overseas collection grossly is Rs 2.8 crore. Taking this into consideration, Sanam Teri Kasam's re-release has recorded worldwide gross collection of Rs 53.1 crore.

That being said, Sanam Teri Kasam is now a little less than Rs 7 crore away from touching its first-ever Rs 60 crore mark. The movie has already surpassed Tumbbad by bagging the crown of highest re-release grosser movie. Tummbad's re-release had witnessed Rs 32 crore net collection in India.

9 years ago, when Sanam Teri Kasam hit Indian cinemas on February 5, 2016, it managed to garner merely Rs 9.1 crore nett collection in India in Hindi language. In 2016, the verdict on the movie was FLOP since its overall budget was Rs 18 crore.

Sanam Teri Kasam tells the story of a tough ex-convict Inder and a traditional librarian Saru. Inder and Saru fall in love and get married but a tragedy changes their lives forever. The cinematography was done by Chirantan Das, the music was given by Himesh Reshammiya, and the lyrics were written by Reshammiya, Sameer Anjaan, Shabbir Ahmed and Subrat Sinha. Sanam Teri Kasam was released worldwide on 5 February 2016 under Eros International. It received mixed reviews from critics and was a commercial failure in its first release. It was re-released on 7 February 2025, and emerged as a commercial success, as per Wikipedia.

The re-release was launched on February 7, 2025, due to its popularity on OTT platforms. Apart from cinemas, the movie can be streamed on OTT platforms like Jio Cinema, Zee5, YouTube, and Apple TV. The film is available for free on Jio and YouTube.

While still trending and receiving much love from fans, expectations of a sequel are also taking rounds.

Directors Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru have confirmed the sequel Sanam Teri Kasam 2 that could launch in 2026. However, instead of the first part's female lead Mawra Hocane, reports have stated that Shraddha Kapoor could be the lead actress in Sanam Teri Kasam 2, paired with Hardhvardhan Rane.

While no official statement is made of the cast in Sanam Teri Kasam 2, however, while chatting with Instant Bollywood, Rao and Sapru said to tag Shradha when they were asked if they would rope in the popular actress for the sequel.

Also, Rane has announced that the film will have a sequel, with him returning to the nostalgia of Sanam Teri Kasam but reportedly alongside Shraddha Kapoor.

Director Vinay Sapru added, "We're really happy that we could crack a story for this one. It moves ahead - it talks about what happens to Harshvardhan's character after Mawra Hocane's character dies in the first outing." In February 2024, Rane revealed that the plans for the sequel had been dropped due to the "box office failure" of the first movie. But later this year on September 10 the sequel was officially announced. The film will see Rane's return as the lead. The sequel's story has been finalised, as per Wikipedia.
