Sankashti Chaturthi on June 3 or 4? Check Correct Date, Moonrise Time, Vrat Shubh Muhurat & Ganesh Puja Vidhi
Devotees of Lord Ganesha are once again preparing for one of the most awaited fasting days of the Hindu calendar. However, this year, Vibhuvan Sankashti Chaturthi has sparked confusion among many devotees, with two different dates-June 3 and June 4-being discussed for the observance of the vrat.
Sankasthi Chaturthi on 3 or 4 June? Check Correct Date, Vrat Shubh Muhurat of Krishna Paksha Chaturthi of Adhik Maas
The confusion stems from the Chaturthi tithi extending across both days. While the lunar date remains active until late on June 4, the actual day of fasting is determined by another crucial factor that plays a central role in Sankashti Chaturthi observance. So, when should devotees keep the fast and perform moon worship? Here's everything you need to know.

Vibhuvan Sankashti Chaturthi 2026: Which Date Is Correct for the Fast As Per Hindu Panchang?
According to Hindu Panchang calculations, the Krishna Paksha Chaturthi of Adhik Maas begins at 9:22 PM on June 3 and continues until 11:31 PM on June 4.
Despite the tithi spanning two calendar days, Vibhuvan Sankashti Chaturthi vrat will be observed on June 3, 2026, because the moonrise associated with the vrat occurs on that date. In Sankashti Chaturthi observance, moonrise timing is considered the deciding factor for determining the fasting day.
Why Is the Sankasthi Ganesh Chaturthi Vrat Not Being Observed on June 4?
Although Chaturthi remains in effect throughout most of June 4, devotees traditionally break the fast only after sighting the moon and offering arghya (water) to Chandra Dev.
Since the relevant moonrise occurs on the night of June 3, religious scholars and Panchang calculations indicate that the vrat should be observed on June 3 itself.

Vibhuvan Sankashti Chaturthi Significance: Why Is This Vrat Special?
This year's observance carries additional religious importance because it falls during Adhik Maas, an extra lunar month that appears approximately once every three years. As a result, Vibhuvan Sankashti Chaturthi in Adhik Maas is also observed only once in three years.
Many devotees believe that fasting on this day and worshipping Lord Ganesha with devotion can help remove obstacles, bring prosperity, improve mental peace and support success in personal and professional life.
The significance becomes even stronger this year as the vrat falls on a Wednesday, a day traditionally associated with Lord Ganesha.
Sankashti Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 Puja Vidhi at Home
Devotees usually begin the day with an early morning bath and take a sankalp to observe the fast.
A clean puja area is prepared, and an idol or image of Lord Ganesha is placed on a yellow cloth. The deity is worshipped with flowers, fruits, durva grass, modaks, incense and a lit lamp. Many devotees also perform abhishek using Panchamrit before offering prayers.
Throughout the day, devotees observe a fast, often consuming only fruits and water. In the evening, Ganesh Puja is performed again, followed by moon worship after moonrise. Arghya is then offered to the Moon before the vrat is concluded.
