Sankashti Chaturthi June 2026 Today: Check Ganesh Puja Vidhi, Vrat Muhurat & Moonrise Timings Citywise

Devotees across India will observe Sankashti Chaturthi today, one of the most widely kept monthly fasts in Hindu tradition dedicated to Lord Ganesha. This month, the observance carries special weight: it falls during Adhik Maas, the rare intercalary lunar month that occurs approximately once every three years, making it a once-in-three-years event known as Vibhuvan Sankashti Chaturthi.

According to Hindu Panchang calculations, the Krishna Paksha Chaturthi Tithi begins at 9:22 PM on June 3, 2026, and remains in effect until 11:31 PM on June 4, 2026.

Despite the tithi extending across two calendar days, religious scholars and Panchang authorities state that Vibhuvan Sankashti Chaturthi Vrat should be observed on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, in most parts of India.

The reason is that Sankashti Chaturthi is determined by moonrise during Chaturthi Tithi rather than by the tithi alone. Since the relevant moonrise for the fast occurs on the night of June 3, devotees are advised to observe the fast on that day and conclude it after moon worship.

Some local Panchangs in Maharashtra may mention June 4 based on regional moonrise calculations. Devotees should therefore verify timings through their local Panchang or temple authorities.

Sankashti Chaturthi Vrat Rules & Ganesh Puja Vidhi

The Sankashti Chaturthi fast is observed from sunrise to moonrise. Devotees consume only water, fruits, sabudana khichdi, boiled potatoes, and peanuts - no grains, no non-vegetarian food. The fast concludes with Chandra Darshan (moon sighting) and Arghya - the ritual offering of water to the Moon.

Take a bath before sunrise, wear clean clothes (preferably yellow or orange), and take a Sankalp (vow) of fasting for the day.

Install or place an image or idol of Lord Ganesha. Offer fresh flowers, durva grass (21 blades), red hibiscus, modak, and light a diya with ghee.

Chant the Sankashti Chaturthi Vrat Katha, Ganesh Chalisa, and "Om Gan Ganapataye Namah" 108 times.

Perform aarti of Lord Ganesha at twilight. Meditate on Vibhuvan Ganapati, the all-pervading form worshipped specifically during Adhik Maas observances.

Why Vibhuvan Sankashti Chaturthi Is Considered Special This Year

This year's observance is regarded as especially auspicious because it falls during Adhik Maas, a sacred month associated with increased spiritual practices, charity and devotion.
