Sarai Kale Khan Namo Bharat To Open Soon: No More Congestion To Reach Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station

The much-awaited Sarai Kale Khan Namo Bharat station, the largest station on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor, is slated for completion by the end of April, with trial runs expected to begin soon. According to the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), the key construction and electrification works are nearly finished, signaling the final stages of this significant infrastructure project.

Completion of Track Work and Trial Runs

The NCRTC confirmed that the track work between New Ashok Nagar and Sarai Kale Khan stations has been successfully completed. The overhead electrical masts and cables are in the final stages of installation, and the electrical traction system will soon be operational. Trial runs on the stretch between New Ashok Nagar and Sarai Kale Khan are anticipated to begin by the end of this month.

An official from the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) said to the media, "The track work between New Ashok Nagar and Sarai Kale Khan stations is complete, and the overhead electrical masts and cables of the electric traction-related work are in the final stages. The overhead electrical masts between New Ashok Nagar and Sarai Kale Khan will be energised soon."

Skywalk To Connect Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station With Sarai Kale Khan Metro

A skywalk around the Sarai Kale Khan RRTS station will be completed by mid-2025. This skywalk will provide a crucial link between Nizamuddin Railway Station and Ring Road, facilitating easier access to the Ashram area. Designed to accommodate pedestrians, it will feature six travelators for smooth movement and provide direct connections to the metro station through lifts, escalators, and staircases.

An NCRTC official highlighted the importance of the skywalk, saying, "The skywalk is being built to provide seamless connectivity, easy access, and smooth movement for passengers of the Namo Bharat trains as well as other pedestrians in the area."

This development aims to resolve long-standing issues faced by commuters, particularly the elderly, women, and children, who often struggle with overcrowding, chaotic traffic, and the long distances between transport hubs.

He added, "People, especially the elderly, women and kids, face the challenge of crossing busy roads. As a result, many passengers prefer using private vehicles, contributing to congestion, pollution, and longer travel times, all of which undermine the effectiveness of public transportation systems."

By addressing these challenges, the Sarai Kale Khan station is set to transform public transportation in the region, reducing congestion, pollution, and travel time, while enhancing the overall effectiveness of the city's transport network. "Over the years, passengers at Sarai Kale Khan have struggled to switch between transport modes, facing overcrowding, chaotic traffic, and long walking distances to access other transport facilities," said an NCRTC official.

Furthermore, a network of additional FOBs is being built to provide easy access across the busy Ring Road, linking commuters to the Namo Bharat station, the ISBT, and the metro station. To improve interconnectivity, the NCRTC is constructing a 280-meter-long foot overbridge (FOB) to link the Namo Bharat station with Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station. The FOB will be equipped with six travelators to facilitate smooth movement between various modes of transport.

Vehicle Drop off Zones To Enhance Connectivity

In addition, a dedicated vehicle drop-off zone is being developed beneath the elevated station, designed to accommodate over 40 vehicles simultaneously. A city bus interchange, capable of holding more than 15 buses, is also being constructed to further streamline the public transport system.

Sarai Kale Khan Namo Bharat Station Designed for High Passenger Volumes

Sarai Kale Khan station, designed to handle high passenger traffic, will feature five entry-exit gates, multiple staircases, 14 lifts, and 18 escalators. All lifts and escalators have already been installed, and the station's dimensions-215 meters in length, 50 meters in width, and 15 meters in height-are optimized to ensure efficient passenger movement across multiple levels.

Sarai Kale Khan: Key Transportation Hub

Sarai Kale Khan station is poised to become a critical transportation hub, connecting commuters to a wide range of transport networks, including Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, Delhi Metro's Pink Line, Veer Hakikat Rai ISBT, and the Ring Road. The metro station will provide seamless connectivity to both the Nizamuddin Railway Station and the Sarai Kale Khan Bus Stand, connecting Delhi with other parts of the country.

This will be the first instance in India where a local metro service will run on the same infrastructure as the Namo Bharat trains, marking a significant milestone in the country's transportation history.

What Is The Progress Status of Namo Bharat Trains?

Currently, Namo Bharat trains are operating along a 55-kilometer stretch from New Ashok Nagar in Delhi to Meerut South, covering 11 stations. The final station on the corridor, Modipuram, is nearing completion, with staircases and other civil works progressing steadily.
