Savitri Jindal, India's richest woman has crossed the threshold of Top 5 in Forbes India's 100 Richest 2023 list. Savitri Jindal is an accomplished businesswoman and politician who along with her nine children controls O.P. Jindal Group, an $18 billion conglomerate set up by her late husband, Om Prakash Jindal.
Before we get into the Forbes new list, one must note that life has not been so easy for Jindal who is today the wealthiest woman in India as she had to take over the reigns of her husband's business after his sudden demise. Only very few of us know that Savitri Jindal, who is today a source of inspiration for women across the globe never went to college.

In the Forbes' latest 'India's 100 Richest 2023′ list, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani has occupied the top position among the richest Indians in 2023 with his net worth rising $4 billion to $92 billion as compared to last year. Ambani is followed by Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani ($68 billion net worth), HCL Tech's Software tycoon Shiv Nadar ($29.3 billion), OP Jindal Group's Savitri Jindal ($24 billion), and Avenue Supermarts' Radhakishan Damani ($23 billion).

According to Forbes India's 100 Richest 2023 list Matriarch Savitri Jindal of the O.P. Jindal Group, a power and steel conglomerate, is at No. 4 with $24 billion, up 46%, thanks partly to the September IPO of ports unit JSW Infrastructure by her hardcharging son Sajjan Jindal. She saw the 2nd largest wealth gain-$7.6 billion-in absolute terms this year. She is also the only woman billionaire and an active politician in the top 10. Her net worth is Rs199,656.00 crore.
Savitri Jindal personal life:
Savitri Jindal was born on March 20, 1950, and grew up in Assam's Tinsukia town. She got married to OP Jindal in 1970. They have 9 children together.
Savitri Jindal's political career:
She is a member of the Indian National Congress political party. She earlier served as a MLA from the Hisar constituency in Haryana, when she got elected in 2005. She was also the Minister of State for Revenue and Disaster Management in the Haryana government from 2005 to 2009. From 2013 to 2015, she also held the position of minister in the Haryana government.
According to Bloomberg, Savitri Jindal inherited her stake in O.P. Jindal Group after her husband died in a helicopter crash in 2005, and sons Prithvi, Sajjan, Ratan, and Naveen manage the family businesses. Savitri Jindal controls her husband's stake in the O.P. Jindal Group.
O.P. Jindal Group also owns 92% of closely held JSW Infrastructure, which builds ports, shipyards, and ship repair facilities. The valuation of the company is based on the average enterprise value-to-Ebitda and price-to-earnings multiples of two publicly traded peer companies: Adani Ports and Gujarat Pipavav Port.
The family also owns JSW Cement, which is valued based on the average enterprise value-to-ebitda and price-to-earnings multiples of three publicly traded peer companies: Shree Cement, Ultratech Cement, and ACC. The valuation of JSW Cement was updated according to the latest financial information on Feb. 9, 2023. This led to an increase of around $1.3 billion in the net worth calculation.
Savitri Jindal got married to her sister's husband:
Savitri Jindal's marriage was fixed with industrialist Om Prakash Jindal when she was 15 years old after Vidya Devi -- O.P.'s first wife and Savitri's sister -- died. O.P. Jindal was 20 years older than Savitri. The industrialist had six children from his first marriage, the eldest being almost as old as Savitri. O.P. and Savitri had three children of their own.
