The State Bank of India (SBI), the country's largest public sector lender, has announced a revision in Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) charges for online transactions conducted by retail clients, with the changes set to take effect from August 15, 2025. The move aims to align SBI's pricing structure with industry standards, while continuing to offer concessions for specific customer segments.
SBI To Revise IMPS Charges From 15 August
The revision introduces nominal charges on higher-value IMPS transactions made through online channels, including mobile banking and internet banking. Small-value transfers-up to Rs 25,000 which will remain completely free, ensuring accessibility for everyday banking needs.

IMPS (Immediate Payment Service) is a real-time interbank electronic fund transfer service managed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). The system is available 24×7, including weekends and bank holidays, and allows instant transfers of up to Rs 5 lakh per transaction via online channels. Transfers via SMS or IVR, however, may carry lower limits.
New IMPS Charges for Online Transfers in SBI
Under the revised fee structure, SBI will begin charging nominal fees for IMPS transactions conducted through online channels. Transactions up to Rs 25,000 will remain completely free, ensuring cost-free convenience for low-value transfers. For transfers between Rs 25,001 and Rs 1,00,000, a charge of Rs 2 plus GST will apply. Transactions in the range of Rs 1,00,001 to Rs 2,00,000 will attract a fee of Rs 6 plus GST, while higher-value transfers from Rs 2,00,001 to Rs 5,00,000 will be charged at Rs 10 plus GST. These charges are applicable only to online IMPS transfers that is branch-based transactions remain unchanged.
- IMPS transactions up to Rs 25,000 will remain free of charge.
- For transactions between Rs 25,001 and Rs 1,00,000, a fee of Rs 2 + GST will be applicable.
- Transfers ranging from Rs 1,00,001 to Rs 2,00,000 will incur a fee of Rs 6 + GST.
- For higher-value transactions between Rs 2,00,001 and Rs 5,00,000, a charge of Rs 10 + GST will be levied.
Revised IMPS Charges: Will All SBI Customers Have to Pay?
SBI has clarified that the newly introduced IMPS charges will not apply to customers under certain salary and pension packages. Online IMPS fees will remain fully waived for holders of the following account types:
- Defence Salary Package (DSP)
- Para Military Salary Package (PMSP)
- Indian Coast Guard Salary Package (ICGSP)
- Central Government Salary Package (CGSP)
- Police Salary Package (PSP)
- Railway Salary Package (RSP)
- Shaurya Family Pension Accounts
- Corporate Salary Package (CSP)
- State Government Salary Package (SGSP)
- Startup Salary Package (SUSP)
- Family Savings Account- SBI Rishtey
These waivers reflect SBI's continued support for government employees, defence personnel, and their families.
